Developed by High Voltage, the titular star-spangled Avenger goes up against the tyrannical Red Skull and terrorist organisation HYDRA during World War II. Developers don't appear to be bucking that trend on the 3DS either, with Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, Thor: God of Thunder and Spider-Man: Edge of Time all releasing within the past five months to lukewarm receptions.Ĭaptain America is the latest superhero to get the comic-to-game treatment on 3DS in Captain America: Super Soldier. Whether it be down to either a lack of respect for the source material on the part of the developer or a rushed development cycle so that the games can meet strict deadlines and release alongside their film counterparts, comic book games are more often than not average at best. The game is a heroic adventure and stands out amongst other superhero/movie games.Superhero fans invariably have very little to look forward to or shout about when it comes to video games. The puzzles are basic and may seem repetitive to some whilst others will enjoy the simplicity and hunting for collectables/ finding other areas in the game. The game is very well designed and has great sound and design. The game packs in a lot for its short adventure. Personally however I found that for the gameplay it’s worth picking it up.Ĭaptain America: Super Soldier combines a highly athletic combat system with fluid platforming. Some chapters as mentioned before are short but for a good reason, it keeps the game flowing at a nice pace, however this may put people of its retail price and will cause some people to either rent or wait for it to drop. With all the great point’s I have mentioned above there is however one main bad point I would like to mention… It’s very short and took me on Normal (with searching for the collectables) up to 6-8 hours (according to my raptr). The variety of different types of battles within the boss’s is great, however the last boss fight may disappoint some players as it slightly becomes repetitive. You will attempt to breach the castle with Captain America fighting your way through many henchmen and sub bosses including Iron Cross, Arnim Zola and Red Skull. Hydra’s castle appears in the game, which I don’t want to spoil too much. They all lead to some sort of collectables/upgrade. E.G smashing 50 statues or blowing up 500 objects. It has a nice mix of environments and collectables/challenges to keep you on the go. The chapters even though some are short seem to have a great variety of different things to do, yes they all lead to some sort of combat or check point and free-roam isn’t really present untill your reach the sewers but they look and feel different from previous areas. Also Mr Captain America is very acrobatic in combat and it pulls of. My personal opinion i thought the range of combat was great, switching you up against different sized enemies and working out their weak spots. You will also be prompted to take control of placing an Airstrike or shooting down enemies/helicopters with rocket cannons.

Chucking the shield at some long distance snipers or exploding barrels is always a fun experience to watch how much destruction a shield can do. The combat system in the game is great and is very fluid.

FALCON PUN… The Captain likes to defeat Hydra soldiers.
